The pedestrian crosswalk button at the northwest corner of the Desert Inn Road / Fort Apache Road intersection is broken. This is the button that would be pushed by someone on the north sidewalk of Desert Inn Road intending to go east across Fort Apache Road towards CVS pharmacy.

I pushed it tonight and it failed to activate the walk signal. The corresponding button on the other side of the crosswalk (northeast corner) does work.

This crosswalk has had several pedestrians that have been hit by vehicles over several years. There are several issues other than having a flashing pedestrian crosswalk sign, especially at night. If someone is at the crosswalk at night, it is very difficult to see them because of poor lighting, both from the street lamps as well as not having a lamp specifically for the crosswalk. The crosswalk sign itself isn't very visible in the daytime, much less at night. Several collisions between pedestrians and vehicles have occurred at this specific crosswalk, yet there doesn't seem to be any indication that an electronic device will be installed to help identify pedestrians. Doesn't the road to zero fatalities begin on the surface streets? As a LVMPD Special Traffic Response Team member, I've had to respond to two fatalities in this area. When will this be corrected?

We need to convert the current 2 way stop to a 4 way Stop at this intersection. This is a very dangerous intersection for the following reasons.
1). there have been multiple traffic accidents at this this intersection (Terry Lane and Alfred Drive) as well as (Terry Lane and Madre Mesa Dr) and (Terry Lane and Sheila Ave). In fact, all three of these intersections need 4 way stops. There is a very high volume of traffic moving through this intersection at the start and end of the school day as Doris M. Reed Elementary School, which is 0.2 miles from this intersection.

2). Alfred is being used as a high speed cut though for vehicles from Jones Blvd. using Alfred Drive to cut to Michael Way and vice a versa, to avoid having to use Smoke Ranch and waiting for the Smoke Ranch / Jones Blvd traffic signal. As a result, most vehicles going down Alfred Drive are either Teachers/Parents traveling to and from Doris Reed Elementary and Vehicles cutting though to avoid Smoke Ranch and/or Cheyenne Ave. Either way this intersection as it is currently configured (2 way Stop) is a danger to the children, parents walking to school. The vehicles drive well past (double) the posted 25 mile and hour and when they cross the intersection at Alfred and Terry it very dangerous and a safety issue.
Also, with Dorris M. Reed Elementary being so close to Alfred Drive and Terry why is there not a School Zone Sign posted directing traffic to drive 15 miles an hour and we also need school/metro police running some speed enforcement patrols on these roads.

There have been 83 lives lost this year due to distracted/reckless/speeding drivers. We don’t want it to happen in our neighborhood so we are pleading with you to post a 4 way stop sign with flashing lights for the following intersections-Terry and Alfred-Terry and Madre Mesa-Terry and Sheila. We have an elementary school near by and we are zoned for livestock. We don’t want any of our animals injured or see a child hit by a speeding car. Please rectify these dangerous but controllable unsigned intersections
